This duplex two bedroom penthouse in East India benefits from open and far reaching views over London with the Thames and the Millennium Dome in the foreground.
Focused primarily on the theme of wall lining, the project consists of very simple interventions. A series of white painted wooden screens line walls to reinforce the spatial definition and orientation of the inhabitable spaces towards the views – living/dining room on the lower level and bedrooms upstairs – whilst concealing services and storage. By contrast, bathroom walls are lined in black mosaic offering a more tactile texture while retaining a similar level of abstraction with ceilings and floors in white mosaic.
A new black metal stair with solid timber treads climbs over a bespoke metal desk, forming a scenic ensemble in the living room whilst connecting the two levels in a highly spatial efficient manner.
